My favorite is Mr Andoh’s Pennine Diary: Memoirs of a Japanese Chicken Sexer in 1935 Hebden Bridge but you make your own decision. Read about it on AbeBooks’ blog.

What would we do without AbeBooks and their blog? They published a great post: A Year in Books: Review of 2010. Prizewinners, death announcements, stellar sales, interesting reviews. Where else would we find out that Rolling Stone Keith Richards admits he once considered becoming a librarian? (See April 2010.)

This poll was done by the School Library Journal—a good start for a reading list! For younger readers check out their poll from 2009 of Top 100 Picture Books. Illustration by the most wonderful Garth Williams.

50 Best Illustration Blogs on the Web

Monday, October 11th, 2010

This site features a great list of illustration blogs, covering a range of topics from the history of illustration to current day techniques and artists, info about the illustration business, cartoons, book and album covers, etc. Going through the list will keep you busy. One site I like is Tiny Showcase—each week they pick a new piece of tiny artwork and turn the work into a limited-run print production. These pieces are really affordable, about the same price as a CD or book. Proceeds go back to the artist as well as to a charity chosen by the artist. Art above is by Andy Kehoe.
